South Coast & Glacier Lagoon 2 days
On day one we strike out from Reykjavik along the south shore where we'll see Mount Hengill volcano, the lush farmlands of Flói area and the Þjórsá river. We'll also see the infamous Eyjafjallajökull, whose eruption shut down translatantic air traffic, Skógafoss waterfall, Mýrdalsjökull glacier with Katla volcano underneath the icecap and the endless plains of black sand at Skeiðarársandur.
From Skaftafell you journey to Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon located at the end of Breiðamerkurjökull glacier that branching the great Vatnajökull glacier. With a depth of around 250 metres, this roughly 18 square kilometre lagoon is packed with huge pieces of ice that have broken loose from the glacier, silently floating towards the sea.
After you have enjoyed the dramatic scenery of Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon the course is set for a nearby accommodation where where we will enjoy dinner (dinner is not included in tour price) and relax for the remainder of the evening.
During winter time, if the weather is good and the skies clear, you might be able to experience the amazing northern lights flickering in the sky.
After breakfast on day two, you get to spend some time at Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon and also take a walk by the lagoon and explore the black sand shores where seals are commonly seen basking.
Returning west towards Reykjavik we stop at more attractions on the way, including the charming village of Vik and Seljalandsfoss, arguably Iceland's most picturesque waterfall. Seljalandsfoss presents the perfect opportunity to walk behind a waterfall and feel the cool mist of water on your face.
